If you’re thinking of making a big move from another state or even another country, chances are you’ll probably consider Florida as your future home.  In 2015, the U.S. Census Bureau noted that more and more people are choosing to move to Florida over every other state except Texas, marking the first time Florida has added more people than California in a decade.  We like to think that the draw to our Sunshine State is the fresh breezes, warm sunshine, and beautiful coastal views, as well as our signature luxury living lifestyle, but you can always schedule your tour of our luxury home communities to see for yourself.  When you finally decide to make your move, grab the reigns of the Florida lifestyle with these home design tips.

Florida Homes: The Chelston in Old Naples

No, not all homes have to scream Southwest Florida lifestyle, but if you want your home style to embody the feel of the beach, consider the West Indies architectural style.  The West Indies home style incorporates a casual and open feel with many architectural details strategically placed to take advantage of the natural light of our sunshine and the fresh air in our breezes.  One of these details is a cupola.  A cupola is a small dome on top of a larger dome on the roof or ceiling that provides an entrance for light and air.  Louvers on your home also let in air and light as these blinds/shutters are designed with horizontal slats strategically angled to do so, while also blocking out rain, direct sunshine, and exterior noise.  Of course if your home is going to be seaside in location or design, Bermuda-style shutters are a must-have as they are key in the overall look of a West Indies-inspired home.

Other architectural details to include in your West Indies home are large transom windows that let in ample light and allow you to take in the beautiful views from your luxury home and a large outdoor living space - with quick access from the inside of the home - to enjoy al fresco dining and long afternoons lounging by the pool.

London Bay Homes designs ideal Florida homes in many areas of Southwest Florida with the help of our professional team of architectural and interior designers.  We have a wide range of fully-customizable floor plans and an architectural team on staff to facilitate the design process for custom builds.  An example of one of our Florida homes is the Chelston, located on one of London Bay Homes’ many home sites from Park Shore to Port Royal and blocks from the Gulf of Mexico .  The Chelston is a two-story, single family home with three bedrooms, three full and one half bathrooms in 4,227 sq. ft. of living space.  It features a beautiful Florida lifestyle design with large windows with transoms to let in an ample amount of natural light.

The Interior of Your Luxury Custom Home

Embody the Southwest Florida lifestyle with a coastal design.

When you think of Florida you think of the beach and one of the most popular design styles in our Sunshine State is the coastal style.  Think blues in the various shades of ocean water and tans, whites, and other neutrals paying homage to the sand.  If you want to take the design up a notch you can incorporate shades of green and turquoise for a brighter look.  Your furniture and accents can bring the design home with the use of natural fibers, light weathered wood, and crisp clean fabrics.  You can throw a nice light blue and white cotton rug on a weathered wood floor and top off the look with sheer curtains blowing in the breeze and allowing the natural light to filter throughout the room.

Seashells, anchors, miniature boats, rope knots, and any other nautical-inspired accessories are welcome in a coastal design, but make sure you keep it to a minimum to keep the look fresh, casual, and classy.  A good example of a coastal design is the Belita model home at The Founders Club in Sarasota, FL.  The Belita is a semi-furnished home that features three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a study in its 3,091 square feet under air.  The open floor plan design allows for an airy feel throughout the home as it leads to the outdoor living area with a sparkling pool with a sun shelf and a summer kitchen with a professional grade grill and organic insect repellent system.  The outdoor space overlooks an abundance of Oak Hammocks and the front of the home has a view of a lake.

Romanza Interior Design fully-furnished this home’s great room, formal dining room, breakfast nook, and outdoor living areas with a beach-inspired theme.  The charming cottage-style home features a neutral palette of browns, tans, and creams with powder blue and green accents throughout.  There is ivory-toned tile flooring set in a running-board pattern in the great room and naturally aged eucalyptus flooring with a river rock finish in the study.
