NAPLES, Fla. (Oct. 29, 2013) – Mediterra, Naples’ premier golf and beach club, continues to receive local and national accolades as one of the best places to live and play. Now, the Club at Mediterra has been named one of America’s Healthiest Clubs, ranking it among the top 10 percent of private clubs for its commitment to fitness and wellness for members and staff.
Mediterra now qualifies for inclusion as one of 2013’s top 100 healthiest clubs in the country.
America’s Healthiest Clubs program is presented by Prevo Health Solutions, a California firm specializing in workplace wellness, member usage, retention and recruitment for the club industry. Clubs are scored in five categories: fitness, nutrition, staff, members and facilities. Only those receiving 800 points or more on a 1,000-point scale qualify as a healthy club.
An on-site visit in September generated a 70-page Health Report that called Mediterra’s number and diversity of fitness classes “exceptional in comparison to other clubs,” and cited the fitness center’s use by 65 percent of all members as “astounding.” The report also recognized the club’s food and beverage department for offering diverse menus and healthy options, including gluten-free and heart-healthy dishes, and dubbed the community a “trendsetter” for introducing its popular bocce league, creating a virtual fitness program and being among a handful of private clubs offering the MyZone heart monitoring system and integrated body composition.
“The latest equipment, newest teaching techniques and cutting-edge technology are readily available with a full calendar of events to meet the needs of the members,” the report noted. “The Club at Mediterra offers members some of the most advanced fitness and exercise equipment available on the market and the most comprehensive and integrated player-specific golf and tennis conditioning programs we have seen.”
“Our conditioning programs have attracted top certified and trained staff and produced a collaboration between golf, tennis and fitness professionals who work together to integrate conditioning, strengthening and balance into sports-specific instruction,” said Tony Falangas, director of sports operations at Mediterra. “The Club also hosts wellness programs, offers on-call sports psychologists and physical therapists, and sponsors open house clinics.”
“The Club at Mediterra eclipses other clubs when it comes to member engagement, wellness, member participation and programming,” according to the report. “It offers a culture of wellness and a management team that rivals the best private clubs in the nation. We found each of the department heads to be forward thinking, trend-setting, health-conscious leaders with an interest in making each year better than the previous year.”
Mediterra CEO and General Manager Tom Wallace remarked, “Our members tell us that our approach to wellness is fundamental to their quality of life and one of the primary reasons they joined.”
America’s top 100 clubs will be announced during the Club Managers Association of America’s annual conference in February and featured in the February 2014 issue of BoardRoom magazine.
Mediterra, recently named an eight-time winner of the Collier Building Industry Association’s Sand Dollar Award for Community of the Year, has also been recognized with BoardRoom’s prestigious Distinguished Emerald Club, an honor attained by only the top five percent of private clubs in the world. An expansion and renovation to The Sports Club’s tennis complex earned national honors from the United States Tennis Association, one of just 19 tennis facilities in the country to receive a USTA Outstanding Facility Award.
Mediterra, the 1,700-acre master-planned community, was also a 2013 Aurora Award winner for best residential development within the Southeastern U.S. The Club at Mediterra previously has achieved national recognition as one of the top golf facilities in America. It has been honored with the Environmental Leaders in Golf Award from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and Golf Digest magazine and has been named by Golf Magazine as one of the 50 Best Golf Communities in America. Mediterra also has been named one of the top 100 golf communities in America by Travel + Leisure Golf for four consecutive years and twice by Links magazine. It was the first 36-hole course to earn Audubon International’s Silver Signature Sanctuary status.
Mediterra offers an array of lifestyle amenities, including the member-owned Club at Mediterra with two Tom Fazio-designed championship courses and the private 10,000-square-foot Beach Club on the Gulf of Mexico, featuring an elevated swimming pool, casual dining with a full bar, and valet service for beach chairs, umbrellas and beverage and food menus.

A recent expansion at The Tavern Bar & Grill at The Club at Mediterra added a summer kitchen and – along with the enhanced space – an expanded menu of gourmet brick-oven pizzas, seasonal salads and open-air grilled entrees.
At the neighboring Sports Club, members take advantage of the facility’s health and wellness programs and amenities, including seven Har-Tru tennis courts, a fitness center with the latest state-of-the-art equipment, bocce courts, a smoothie bar and a full schedule of classes from A to Z – aerobics to Zumba. A professional staff offers personal training and consultation, working with members to achieve a healthy lifestyle. The club pool caters to both active and leisurely pursuits: members swim laps or lounge on the decks. A full menu of spa treatments provides pampering and relaxation just steps from home Mediterra’s Golf Learning Center offers indoor and outdoor hitting stations, video equipment with launch monitor, a 2.5-acre short game practice complex with three greens, and a staff of certified PGA professionals.
