NAPLES, Fla. (Aug. 20, 2013) – Mediterra, Naples’ premier golf and beach club community, has been awarded the prestigious Distinguished Emerald Club by BoardRoom magazine, an honor attained by only the top five percent of private clubs in the world.

The Distinguished Clubs award program is a stepped process that includes a committee nomination, site visit, formulaic audit and an evaluation report. The award recognizes the club’s member experience and reviews the food and beverage service, golf operations and courses, tennis, aquatics, spa and club facilities, as well as intangible qualities such as reputation, brand, reverence and distinction.

“Although the club is quite new in the world of fine private clubs, it has nevertheless created a positive image and reputation and has already developed some great traditions, customs and events,” said Keith Jarrett, president of Distinguished Clubs and co-founder of BoardRoom magazine. “The Mediterra real estate development and overall setting of the club are outstanding, and the club itself provides activities, programs and events that offer something for everyone.”

Distinguished Achievement in Leadership honors were awarded to Carmen Mauceri, director of clubhouse operations; Max Passino, director of membership; Tyler Field, executive chef; Rob Anderson, director of golf; and Frank Heery, director of agronomy.

“I am extremely proud of our world-class executive team and the exceptional experience they are creating for each of our members,” said CEO and General Manager Tom Wallace.

Mediterra, the 1,700-acre master-planned community, was also a 2013 Aurora Award winner for best residential development within the Southeastern U.S. and is a seven-time winner of the Collier Building Industry Association’s Sand Dollar Award for Community of the Year.

The Club at Mediterra previously has achieved national recognition as one of the top golf facilities in America. It has been honored with the Environmental Leaders in Golf Award from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America and Golf Digest magazine and has been named by Golf Magazine as one of the 50 Best Golf Communities in America. Mediterra also has been named one of the top 100 golf communities in America by Travel + Leisure Golf for four consecutive years and twice by Links magazine. It was the first 36-hole course to earn Audubon International’s Silver Signature Sanctuary status.

Mediterra offers an array of lifestyle amenities, including the member-owned Club at Mediterra with two Tom Fazio-designed championship courses and the private 10,000-square-foot Beach Club on the Gulf of Mexico, featuring an elevated swimming pool, casual dining with a full bar, and valet service for beach chairs, umbrellas and beverage and food menus.

Mediterra’s on-site amenities include themed neighborhood parks; eight miles of walking and jogging trails; a fitness complex with tennis and bocce courts, swimming pool and spa services; and the 29,000-square-foot clubhouse offering formal and casual dining prepared by a staff of award-winning culinary experts.

A recent expansion at The Tavern Bar & Grill at The Club at Mediterra added a summer kitchen and – along with the enhanced space – an expanded menu of gourmet brick-oven pizzas, seasonal salads and open-air grilled entrees.

At the neighboring Sports Club, members take advantage of the facility’s health and wellness programs and amenities, including seven Har-Tru tennis courts, a fitness center with the latest state-of-the-art equipment, bocce courts, a smoothie bar and a full schedule of classes from A to Z – aerobics to Zumba. A professional staff offers personal training and consultation, working with members to achieve a healthy lifestyle. The club pool caters to both active and leisurely pursuits: members swim laps or lounge on the decks. A full menu of spa treatments provides pampering and relaxation just steps from home.

Mediterra’s Golf Learning Center offers indoor and outdoor hitting stations, video equipment with launch monitor, a 2.5-acre short game practice complex with three greens, and a staff of certified PGA professionals. Membership opportunities at Mediterra are limited to just 225 members per 18 holes.

Planned for fewer than 950 homes, Mediterra’s master plan includes more than 1,000 acres dedicated to open space with golf, parks and nature preserves. All of the community’s amenities are membership-owned.

Mediterra is located on Livingston Road two miles north of Immokalee Road in North Naples. For additional information, contact The Club at Mediterra at 239-254-3022 or visit www.mediterraliving.com.
